Some people would say that taking a vehicle apart is much easier than putting it together. It must never be assumed however, that it's a very easy task as it can be really time consuming. Nevertheless the effort can be worthwhile, if you are dismantling the vehicle for purposes of selling or salvaging the parts to be used to fix another vehicle to obtain a profit. Having the best or appropriate mechanic tools for the process is highly recommended in order to achieve the desired results.
Care must be taken when commencing any vehicle dismantling, therefore the first thing to do is to remove the hood on the vehicle then proceed to detach the battery and cut the hoses, wires and belt. Subsequent to this is draining of the engine oil, water and transmission fluid from the transmission; this will give a more clean tidy surrounding. Generally this may be done by way of a plug or hose which most vehicles tend to have to remove engine fluids.
Remove the engine by fastening it to the engine hoist. Before removing the engine however, unfasten the motor mount which is a "simple piece of work with two pieces of metal bonded by a rubber insulator." Once the engine is removed, it is now time to take out the other mechanical parts such as the radiator, exhaust components, the transmission and the alternator, which you will be selling or salvaging.
Note that care must be taken to unfasten the different parts of the vehicle. The right tools must be used to successfully dismantle the vehicle. Tools like a pry bar, socket wrench, a hammer and screwdriver. These tools will help in the effective removal of parts and pieces that are harder to remove.
Use a jack, which according to Wikipedia is a "mechanical device used to lift heavy loads or apply great forces", to raise the vehicle a couple inches from the ground in order to remove the rims and tires from the vehicle. In order to remove the tires, one will need a lug wrench to take off the lug nuts from each tire to allow for easy tire removal. Next would be to disassemble the brake, remove the hoses and unscrew the brakes as well as take out the rotors.
Once that has been achieved, it is now time to dismantle the body of the car. The front fenders would be the first to be removed. Using a wrench or screwdriver, take the doors off the hinges then use a cutting torch to remove the roof and body panels.
Take out all of the vehicle's interior parts; pull out all the carpeting to show the floorboards. Once this is achieved, all that should be left of the vehicle is its frame. If further dismantling is required, then use the cutting torch to cut the vehicle in more manageable parts.
