All broadband and network routers commonly use the IP address 192.168.1.1. IPods, PC’s, and other devices can find the router without using the IP address. Computers, printers and other devices are set up to use the same IP address and do not use the router, but this is uncommon.
The IP address of the router is not necessary because IPods, computers and other devices find the router by its name. If you are having trouble with your home network then you need to know what the IP address is or when setting up a router for the first time.
You can connect your router to the IP address 192.168.1.1 through opening your browser and then visiting the IP address of http://192.168.1.1/
From this procedure, you can log into the administrator console, and configuration screens. It will fail if three of these things happen:
1) If the router fails when the browser is opened to connect to the browser.
2) If the router has a different IP address than 192.168.1.1.
3) And finally if the computer and browser fails to join the network.

That is why you need to troubleshoot to see why the router is not working.
