With the economic situation of the moment, many individuals have started thinking of ways to pinch pennies and conserve. Many are opting for "staycations" instead of flying overseas to explore the best of other countries, this opens the market for RVs because they are the perfect "staycation" lifesaver, and they are hotels on wheels. With this idea in mind and the right market starting your own RV salvage business could be a winning idea. When many of think of going RVing we think of the million dollar RV’s often featured on travel channels or a small family crammed into an even smaller space but we never think that RV’s can in fact be affordable and fun.

Steps to starting an RV salvage business

1. Before starting your business you should make a business plan. The business plan should detail specific plans for the first five years of the business and is based on market research to determine how sustainable and marketable the business will be. To formulate a proper business plan you can hire an accountant or visit a small business association in your community.

2.To start any kind of business you need capital. This may be obtained by borrowing from a bank or a lending institution. The loan will only be approved if a detailed business plan is put forward stating how profits will be made and how the operations will be set up to make a profit. To get approval capital you need collateral this may come in the form of money in the bank or property.

3. Location is a big issue with salvaging companies, they will not be approved to be in certain locations according to zoning laws but this should not be a deterrent. Find a location that is close to city developments or one that is as central as possible and more importantly far from any other RV salvage yards. The location of your business will determine where much of your business comes from.

4. Make the business legal. To make your business legal it must first be located in an area where it is legal to have a junkyard. Zoning regulations from the state will pin point areas where salvage yards can be placed.

5. The business must also be regulated. The name and type of business has to be registered with the DMV which will also issue the necessary licenses and permits.
